Do you want to build trust and increase morale?
Most organization development projects impact teamwork through common problem solving, action planning, and implementation. There are many different kinds of teams — from inter-dependent trauma teams in ER’s to remote teams of subject matter experts. A group or department is not necessarily a team, nor is a group of people with a common goal. What makes people a team is the emotional support and trust they offer each other. In our 20 years facilitating team building sessions, we believe team building takes time, commitment, and even play. Yet, it is more than games, activities, programs, and exercises. The best team building happens in the purposeful work of solving a problem together in an atmosphere of trust. We have seen that without trust, team building efforts fail. Thus, we created the Trust Cards and use them in our team building interventions.
We have designed and facilitated team building events from one hour to one week long. We have guided teams in deserts, on mountains, in boats and board rooms, in jazz concerts and kitchens, on dude ranches, and yes — in ordinary conference rooms.
The City Adventure ranks as the most successful and favorite client team building activity. We custom design and carefully craft team building activities in a city of your choice. These activities based on the scavenger hunt concept yet more intricate than that, are highly creative adventures that are perfect for teams who want to renew their energy, commitment, trust, and communication.
Imagine your team taking the challenge to:
- From a kayak, counting the number of seals on a buoy
- Identifying a particular feature of a famous architectural landmark
- Cajole a mime for his or her autograph
- Interview a local
- Find a symbol for the team
- Explore a work of art
Utilizing these skills:
- Making decisions
- Measuring and analyzing
- Soliciting information
- Solving problems
- Budgeting time and money
- Building relationships
- Planning
- Providing feedback to others
So that:
- Collaboration and creativity increases
- Time and costs are saved
- Goals are achieved
- Trust is restored
The City Adventure Planning Format
The City Adventure team building activity typically requires several planning steps:
- The Bader Group interviews the participants to gauge their motivational level, business challenges, and needs.
- We create the City Adventure based on the team building goals of the participants and a dash of fun.
- With the help of an internal administrative expert, The Bader Group plans the travel logistics, selects the hotel, and finalizes the budget.
- The participants meet the evening prior to the City Adventure to review some basic ground rules and meet The Bader Group facilitators. Teams begin to form.
- After breakfast the next morning, the teams are given their assignments, cash for expenses, safety tips, and the ending time and place.
- The teams plunge into the city and begin their assignments.
- Later in the day, everyone meets to review the City Adventure results. The Bader Group facilitators glean insights and lessons of the day with implications and goals for back home application.
