 Action Learning for Leadership DevelopmentInterviewer/Editor: Amy Berger, Technology Coordinator, ASTD San Diego play | download Gloria is the president and founder of The Bader Group, a 20 year-old international, organization development consulting firm specializing in leadership, executive and team development, organizational assessments, and action learning. She has facilitated leadership development and organizational renewal for clients in a broad spectrum of industries: e-commerce, manufacturing, education, finance, insurance, NGO’s, healthcare, pharmaceutical, retail, technology, and engineering. Ninety percent of her clients are repeat business, and they include: Solar Turbines (winner of the 1998 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award), Northrop-Grumman, the Inter-American Development Bank, the UN, and IKEA North America. Most recently, Gloria received certification in Covey’s Speed of Trust program that offers organizations tools and assessments to build trust and reduce costs. She is leading a seven-month complex Action Learning project for State Farm’s high potential directors that includes coaching, assessments, videotaping, and focused learning experiences as the group solves a strategic organizational challenge. Gloria’s publications include: Coaches’ E-Library, Trust Cards; Creative Activities for Teams; "Building the Consulting Relationship" with Tom Stich; and "How to Do Peer Review" with Audrey Bloom, both published in Training and Development Journal. She is national conference presenter and professor in the University of California, San Diego’s Masters in Healthcare Leadership program. For over 20 years, she has served as an adjunct staff member and feedback specialist at the Center for Creative Leadership. She holds a doctorate in leadership from the University of San Diego. Her master’s degree is from Temple University and she received her B.A. from Rosemont College. Gloria’s original approach to organization development and coaching grows out of her diverse life experience. She’s an accomplished graphic artist, mountain climber (Mt. Rainier, Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Ruwenzoris, Dolomites, and others) and former Outward Bound wilderness instructor. She’s lived and worked in Italy and Nigeria, travels widely, and studies yoga, Italian, and gourmet cooking. |

Dr. Anne Liljenstrand is a Principal Consultant with The Bader Group. Anne’s main areas of focus are executive coaching, organizational and psychological assessments, team development, and design and implementation of custom initiatives. Anne has worked with clients across a broad range of industries, including: Hi-tech, Engineering, Financial/ Investment, Manufacturing, Consumer goods, Logistics/ Freight, Governmental agencies, Healthcare, and Biotech. In addition to Anne’s leadership consulting engagements she is an Adjunct Staff member and a Certified Feedback Coach at The Center for Creative Leadership. She holds experience from teaching in the Master’s Degree in Clinical Research program at the University of California, San Diego. Anne is a licensed psychologist and has provided clinical psychology services in a private practice setting, as well as at San Diego State University’s Counseling and Psychological services delivering individual therapy and group facilitation. She also serves on the board of directors and as a consultant for an international search firm. She is well traveled. She has lived in Sweden for a number of years where she is also originally from. In her consulting, Anne combines her clinical understanding of individual differences and potential with organizational knowledge and business acumen. Anne has researched and authored on practices and approaches to executive coaching, including creating an E-Library for coaches and managers consisting of different topics often discussed within coaching engagements with Gloria Bader, Ed.D. Her research, articles and published work include: A Comparison of Practices and Approaches to Coaching based on Academic Background, The Value of Building Trust in the Workplace with Gloria Bader, Coaching: who, what, where, when and how with Jonathan Gale, Joyce Pardieu and Del Nebeker, as well as Coaching Services: A look at coaches, clients, and practices with Del Nebeker, published in the Consulting Psychology Journal. Steve Hansen is an Associate Consultant with The Bader Group specializing in executive and leadership development coaching, team building, and relationship systems coaching. He brings his practical, in-depth business experience drawn from past executive and leadership roles to his consulting. In addition to executive coaching, Steve is an experienced facilitator working with teams to meet changing organizational objectives. He is a skilled relationship systems coach who works with teams or groups of teams to create more effective team performance. Steve has a strong business background in organizing, automating, and streamlining operations, administration, and the sales function combined with a solid record of increasing revenue and profits by improving processes, managing projects, and building teams. He has excellent analytical, evaluative, communications, and interpersonal skills. Before joining The Bader Group, Steve worked in the home healthcare industry at the executive level. He provided operational support to 55 franchise owners in 8 states for the largest home care franchise company in the U.S. Prior to that, as Director of Operations for the visionary eldercare industry leader, Age Concerns, Steve focused on organizational development, process management and improvement, team building, and strategic planning. Steve also has multiple years of experience as a sales manager where he was recognized for leadership in business development and cultivating customer and employee loyalty. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University. He is a Certified Coach for the Center for Creative Leadership, an international leadership training organization. Steve has completed an extensive course of study with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) and is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC). He has also completed team coaching coursework in Organization & Relationship Systems Coaching. As a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) he holds the designation of Professional Certified Coach (PCC). Steve is certified in 360-degree multi-rater assessments including Benchmarks® and Leadership Development 360®. He is also experienced with the CPI-260, FIRO-B, Change Style Indicator, MBTI, and Strengths Finder 2.0. As a trained mediator, Steve served with the National Conflict Resolution Center for many years. Elizabeth Harper is an Associate Consultant with The Bader Group. She has her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial Organizational Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University. She holds degrees from University of California, Irvine and CSPP in social sciences and psychology with a strong industrial-organizational foundation in test administration, group dynamics, and coaching. She is proficient in psychometric tools, such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Elizabeth has extensive experience in the clinical setting, working with inpatient and outpatient clients. She currently works at Turning Point Crisis Center, an inpatient program, where she is the Assistant Program Director, overseeing a staff of 30 people while also managing the unique needs of the clients and program. In addition, she has conducted 100 clinical assessments and developed 150 treatment plans for patients with a wide range of psychopathology. By understanding the spectrum in mental health, Elizabeth combines these insights with her natural ability to relate to others. Prior to graduate school, Elizabeth developed strategic marketing programs with executive level leaders. At Cox Media, she successfully partnered with leading businesses and Fortune 500 companies to launch on-air advertising campaigns. Through detailed assessment and relationship building, Elizabeth was able to customize each program to meet critical business needs. With her clinical experience and business background, Elizabeth provides The Bader Group client’s with a diverse set of skills; case conceptualization, project management, leadership, organizational development, and teambuilding. |

Xavier Hernández, Ph.D., Associate Consultant with The Bader Group, is a management consultant with a passion for partnering with individuals, teams, and organizations in reaching their full potential. Xavier has doctoral level training in Clinical and Industrial/Organizational Psychology as well as progressive experience in leadership development, organizational assessment and development, team building, and group facilitation. He is skilled in strengths-based approaches for implementing change initiatives including application to performance and talent management. Xavier is proficient and certified in administering, interpreting, and providing feedback on several psychological and organizational assessments and instruments. Xavier has extensive experience in creating and administering internal- and external-facing opinion and satisfaction surveys as well as other quantitative and qualitative evaluation tools. Recent experience includes: managing performance management processes (from goal setting to performance appraisal); management coaching and training on the components of trust and utilizing strengths; internally on-boarding new talent; group coaching via action learning; executive coaching; creating and facilitating training programs for managers and employees on several topics including performance review and professional development planning. Xavier’s interests include Latino leadership and character strength development for optimal performance. In addition, Xavier carries over ten years experience working in therapeutic settings working with individuals and groups. Originally from Ontario, California, Xavier attended California State University, Fullerton where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Minor in Human Services. His Masters of Science degree in Psychology is from Alliant International University in San Diego, California. Rosa Grunhaus Belzer is an Associate Consultant with The Bader Group specializing in leadership development and executive coaching. Her areas of expertise are Global Leadership Development, Management of multicultural teams, Training and Executive Coaching. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty at The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) and is certified by CCL as an Executive Coach. Her Executive Coaching work includes clients from various fields including biotechnology, finance, manufacturing, services industry, IT, government, health care, communication, utilities, and the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Rosa Grunhaus Belzer facilitates custom programs for global companies and has worked with executives in Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America. She provides excellent services in various languages which include Spanish and Hebrew. Rosa began her career as a Clinical Psychologist. After completing her Ph.D. and post graduate work in Psychology, she got licensed to practice as a Psychologist in California. In addition to her successful psychotherapy practice where she helped adults become more satisfied with their lives, relationships and careers, Rosa was the Director of a Clinical Training Program at a Mental Health Clinic. She designed a training program where Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Students completed their clinical training. This program was highly regarded by students who competed to be accepted to the year long internship program. She was also the Director of a Satellite Mental Health Clinic associated with the California School of Professional Psychology where Pre-Doctoral Students provided Psychological Services to low socioeconomic clients. Rosa transitioned to Executive Coaching and Leadership Development in 1999 when she was invited to be Adjunct Faculty at The Center for Creative Leadership. She is certified by CCL as a coach, facilitator, and a trainer and has worked for them in their open enrollment programs as well as their custom programs, both in the United States as well as internationally. She has been selected to be a Mentor Coach where she supervises junior coaches as they get trained at CCL. Rosa was born and raised in Venezuela. She lived in Israel where she studied at Tel Aviv University, earning a B.A. in Psychology. Her Ph.D. is from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. Rosa has been licensed as a Psychologist in California since 1985. Viet Pham, Organizational Development (OD) Specialist, brings to The Bader Group her knowledge of job and performance analysis, statistical analysis, psychological testing and measurement, and social science computer applications. Viet is a recent arrival to The Bader Group and joins the organization as an intern from San Diego State University (SDSU). Her current and future projects include assisting The Bader Group in developing and delivering customized OD programs, including proofing and editing OD materials, creating executive presentations and summaries, developing and managing client facing surveys, and other tasks related to organizational development initiatives. Viet is also responsible for managing administrative and marketing functions, such as website updates, advertising, and producing podcasts. In addition to her internship with The Bader Group, Viet is currently working in a lab as a graduate research assistant for SDSU. She has also had past research experience at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) as an undergraduate research assistant. Her collective lab experience includes developing and conducting experiments, collecting, coding, and entering data, performing and transcribing interviews, researching journal articles, and performing literature reviews. Her areas of research exposure include second- and third-hand smoking policies, false memory implantation, and the misinformation paradigm. Viet has also worked as a human resource intern, and while pursuing her academic and career goals, Viet worked full time as an administrative assistant. Viet is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Applied Psychology at SDSU, with a focus in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Program Evaluation. She earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from CSUF. Relatively new to the San Diego area, Viet enjoys exploring the city and surrounding area. She also loves to read, hike, jog, and take photographs during her free time. |
